The Real World: Stanford
The Real World: Stanford is one of my longtime projects. It's a 60-minute "Welcome to Stanford!" show for the incoming frosh class. Topics range from the fun stuff (your first party, roommate adventures, finding community) to the unfun stuff (relationship violence, sexual assault, academic failure). Olivia Haas wrote the first version of this script in 2011. She's one of my lifelong collaborators (most notably directing the first production of the full-length God Herself Could Not Sink This Ship). I worked on it as a student producer in 2013, then came back after graduating to executive produce and further develop the script in 2015, 2016, and 2017.
Writing an educational show was an exercise in collaboration:
1) I worked with a large number of invested offices on campus who wanted their issues represented.
2) I worked with a mostly new group of students each year, all of whom had very different experiences of life at Stanford.
This project is near to my heart--I took great pride in turning dry procedural information into meaningful, socially relevant dramatic scenework.
