UNBUCKLING ORION'S BELT
December 20th, 2010: The first lunar eclipse of the full moon on the winter solstice in the last four centuries, the second ever recorded, and the only one in our lifetimes.
Coincidentally this astronomically unlikely event coincided with my chance meeting of an astrologer cum mathematician cum mountain climber at the high-security hotel for particle physicists where I found myself bunking for winter break.
In this solo performance piece I describe and portray the fateful evening I laid beneath a haunted tree with a young man who billed himself as the master debater of the United Kingdom and heard stories of the constellation Orion... and may have ended up hiding in the mud.
