VIRTUAL LIVE EVENTS
From unthinkable to vital in less than six months; or, how live theater suddenly became accessible across virtual space.
Theaters around the world are doing their best to adapt to shelter-in-place, quarantine, social distancing, and all the other measures being taken to ensure the health of our artists, our staff, and our audiences. New forms of live performing arts are emerging, and I'm doing my absolute best to elevate our efforts into engaging digital content.
In many of my meetings with clients, I hear something that I've never heard in my entire life as a live theater producer: "What if too many people try to watch my stream?" Can you imagine telling your past self that one of your problems might be that TOO MANY PEOPLE might want to watch your theatrical production? It's all about delivering a quality product to an audience that's suddenly, and tantalizingly, limitless.

WHY NOT JUST USE ZOOM?
Do you like staring at a Brady Bunch array of people's faces for an hour? Ninety minutes? Two and a half hours with an intermission?
In this new era of streaming theater, our events must be more engaging. It needs energy, graphic design, a surprise or two. I'm here to make that happen.

WORK SAMPLES
The Bay Area Playwrights Festival 2020 was both the 43rd annual festival and the 1st annual festival. Doing everything fully online was obviously a huge shift, but having a strong production background helped me succeed as the producer. It was so successful, in fact, that I've launched an LLC to do this professionally: Transcend Streaming. More information will be released in the coming weeks. I create fully live digital events that surpass expectations for the streaming age. As one of the patrons of BAPF put it: "the bar has been raised."
Here's a behind the scenes video of the Virtual Launch Party at Playwrights Foundation in San Francisco, CA.
Here's the 2020 Sassafras Gala for Shotgun Players in Berkeley, CA. Jump to 14:19 for the start of the live content, or to 1:25:30 for my personal favorite segment.
RATES AND SERVICES
I offer full event producing services on an ongoing basis. Whether you've got a graphics designer and video editor on staff, or you'll need me to build you an event from the ground up, we can collaborate together to share your stories and your work with the world.
Depending on the needs of your event, I may encourage you to run it through a simpler system like OBS or a more sophisticated one like vMix. That's something we can discuss in our initial meeting.
I offer one-time consultations to theaters that are interested in getting a survey of the technology they'll need to do this themselves. This lasts for about one hour and will start your staff on the path to developing your own streaming infrastructure. If you're interested in having me teach a longer class to your staff on how to run either Zoom/OBS or vMix events, we can make that happen too!
I currently produce live performances, galas, fundraisers, virtual parties, and pre-recorded video content.
